'Happy Feet' Dance Their Way To Best Feature At Children's BAFTA Awards

This year's British Academy Children's Awards ceremony has just taken place to celebrate the best in moving image for children, whether in film, television, video games or online.
While the annual Awards - in association with Electronic Arts - are voted for by BAFTA members (including film-makers, programme-makers and games developers), the Academy also gives children a voice. The BAFTA Kids' Vote in association with Electronic Arts enabled children to vote for their favourite film of the past 12 months. The 10 nominated films were selected from the year’s top box office family-oriented pictures and voted for on the websites of CBBC, Cartoon Network, CiTV, Disney Channel UK, Nickelodeon and Paramount.
In addition BAFTA partnered with CBBC to launch a new children's film-making initiative to inspire and enable children to make their own films and tell their own stories. CBBC Me and My Movie, in association with BAFTA was launched on Blue Peter in April.
Keith Chegwin led the proceedings which included computer games for the first time.
A tale of dancing penguins ‘Happy Feet’ won best feature film beating heavyweights ‘Bridge To Terabithia’. ‘Flushed Away’ and the hugely successful ‘Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix’.
‘The Simpsons’ won the coveted ‘Kids Vote’ for under 16’s favourite film of the year.
The BBC also enjoyed success as Cbeebies won best channel and Aardman was named independent production company of the year.
Best animation went to ‘The Secret Show’ and best drama went to ‘That Summer Day'.
The evening’s special award went to presenter of ITV Children’s show ‘Magpie’, Mick Robertson, now an award winning producer.
