Connemara's 'Kings' Crowned In America

London based High Point Media Group have been celebrating their success in bringing Tom Collins's heart-felt film, 'Kings', about dispossessed Irish immigrants living in Kilburn, London to North America.
After months of negotiations and a range of offers for the official Irish Oscar entry, High Point sold Kings to BFS Entertainment & Multimedia Limited, who after 25 years in the home video business, have singled out Tom Collins's paean to those forgotten by society as the film to mark their first move into theatrical distribution into cinemas. The deal comes during an amazingly successful home run of 13 weeks in Ireland and still counting.
The film has at its heart a wake, where six friends who came to London in the late 1970s to find economic stability, mourn the loss of a mutual friend who died in a tragic tube accident. The reunion stirs up long held resentments and feelings of bitterness between those who managed to make something of themselves and those who, clinging on to the whisky as much as to a lost sense of national belonging, got left behind.
"Kings is the story of the countless invisibles on our streets", said Carey Fitzgerald, MD of High Point, "people who through circumstances beyond their control are forced to leave their country and find a better life, but who more often than not get squeezed out by a combination of an indifferent economy and low self-esteem. This is a phenomenon that resonates as much with notions of the 'American dream' gone sour as it does here in the UK. We're so happy that BFS feel confident enough in 'Kings' to stake their theatrical ambitions on it."
