Scottish triumph at the British Independent Film Awards

Two films funded by Scottish Screen have each won double awards at the British Independent Film Awards in London.
Ken Loach's rite of passage movie 'Sweet Sixteen' not only took the top prize as Best Film, but also collected Best Newcomer for young star Martin Compston.
Oscar nominee Samantha Morton was named Best Actress for her leading role in Lynne Ramsay's 'Morvern Callar', which also won Best Technical Achievement for Alwin Kuchler.
Claire Chapman, Scottish Screen's Head of Production, said it was a very satisfactory result: "It was a wonderful evening for Scottish film, and the Scots were there in force. There is no doubt that the industry in Scotland has really made an impact this year with these films, both of which are taking awards at festivals and playing to packed houses.
"With the slate of films shot here over the past few months which will be released next year, it won't be the last time the kilts are in evidence at these awards."
