Lite Alternative Tours With A Lighting Multicore System Built By VDC Trading

Keane’s recent concert at the O2 Arena in London gave stage and set lighting specialists Lite Alternative its first opportunity to try out a new lighting mulitcore system that was specifically built for the company by the technical team at VDC Trading.
Cable specialist VDC Trading incorporated video, power and data cables into the sheathed Type 3 system, which allows Lite Alternative’s FOH lighting control desks and media servers to ‘talk’ to the stage dimmers and distro. The company also created a range of video multicore cables in various lengths, which allow the lighting designer and operators to control the on-stage video LED/projection from the lighting desk.
“Our requirement was for a 100 metre system that could be used on major theatre/arena tours and could also easily be extended for bigger events like the O2 Arena, as and where necessary,” says Jon Greaves, Director at Lite Alternative. “We have used VDC Trading many times in the past and knew that its technical team would be able to custom-build to our specifications. The company’s Van Damme cable products are incredibly high quality and very durable, which is important for a system that has to withstand the rigours of touring. What we now have is a versatile and tough control distribution system which breakout through 16a power, DMX and Cat 5 cables.”

As well as major tours for artists such as Keane, Paul McCartney, Arcade Fire and Crowded House, the company also handles lighting for corporate events. It is currently using its VDC multicore system on a Marks & Spencer road show and conference tour, which is promoting the retailer’s Per Una range of women’s clothing.
