Academy Award For Lightworks Editor

Lightworks Film editor Thelma Schoonmaker won her third Academy Award on February 25 in Los Angeles for her work on the Boston crime drama 'The Departed,' which also won Best Picture, Best Director for Martin Scorsese and Best Screenwriter for William Monahan, who adapted the Hong Kong thriller 'Infernal Affairs'.
She has previously won Oscars for editing Martin Scorsese's 'Raging Bull' (1980) and 'The Aviator' (2004). Thelma also had Oscar nominations for editing Michael Wadleigh's 'Woodstock' (1971), on which Scorsese was an editor and assistant director, and 'Goodfellas' (1990) and 'Gangs of New York' (2002) both directed by Scorsese.
Schoonmaker has been editing on Lightworks since 1994, when Scorsese decided to switch to digital editing for 'Casino,' his riveting, behind the scenes, perspective on mob interests in 1970’s Las Vegas. Lightworks editor Scott Brock assisted Thelma on 'Casino' and has remained a critical member of her team on subsequent films.

The audio scrub capacity of Lightworks is also very important to me and is not available on other digital editing machines. It is critical to be able to creep forward listening to the sound at slow speed when making delicate audio edits.”
