Showcomotion Steams Into Sheffield In June

This year’s Showcomotion Young People’s Film Festival will run from 28 June to 12 July at the Showroom Cinema in Sheffield.
Kathy Loizou, the Festival Director, said: "We’ve expanded the festival from 10 days to a full 15 days so we can cope with all the demand for films and events. There’s going to be an exciting line up of activities in 2007, and we are cramming the 15 days of the festival with premieres, special guests, competitions and fun-packed workshops."
"This year we are are proud to announce that Showcomotion is working with UNICEF UK to award two brand new prizes for short films on the theme of young people's rights. It’s a great honour to be working with UNICEF UK."
"Following the amazing success of the inaugural event in 2006, we’re also excited to be hosting the second Steel City Globe Awards, Sheffield’s own mini-Oscars for primary age film makers and to be expanding to a new evening of awards for secondary age film makers."
Hannah Jones of UNICEF UK, said: "UNICEF is very excited to be awarding two prizes for young film makers at this year's Showcomotion. UNICEF UK's Youth Team gives young people the chance to take action on children's rights worldwide so we are particularly pleased that the prizes will be awarded to films about young people's rights. UNICEF UK provides a platform for the voices of young people and this competition is a fantastic opportunity for young people to speak out on the issues that matter to them."
Showcomotion Young People’s Film Festival is accepting submissions for the 2007 festival.
Festival organisers said: "We are on the look-out for exciting and inventive films made both for and by children and young people from across the UK and the world. They can be shorts or features and we are interested in seeing all kinds of films including fiction, documentary and animation. We want the very best films from around the world to entertain and inspire our audiences and we want films that showcase the best in emerging new film making talent."
Submission details and regulations can be downloaded at:
www.showcomotion.org.uk and the deadline has been extended to 30 March 2007.
