Quantel And Buzz Collaborate For High Profile Spots For NFL

Leading finishing and audio post boutique, BUZZ NY, recently completed three high profile spots for the NFL called: Favour, Celebration and Neighbours.
Crew Cuts editor Debbie McMurtrey brought the campaign to Buzz where finishing editor Peter Flack conformed the spots on the Quantel eQ. The agency was BBDO.
The 30 second spot, 'Neighbours', characterizes the concept of the NFL campaign and the use of humor to drive the message. In it, two avid football fans, neighbours separated by a back fence, epitomize the rivalry between the two Midwest powerhouse teams—the Chicago Bears and the Minnesota Vikings.
The end tag displays NFLshop.com where fans can purchase the latest NFL team’s gear online.
Although the spots were straightforward from a post perspective, offlined on Final Cut Pro and onlined on the eQ multi-resolution editing, visual effects and colour correction system, the challenge was meeting the networks’ myriad deliverables requirements. Using the eQ’s multi-resolution toolset, Flack was able to output all of the required resolutions and formats seamlessly, without having to reconfigure the system.
“We delivered directly to the networks all the different formats required,” said Flack. “With the power of the eQ we could be confident that our boutique facility could deliver whatever the client needed in the HD world. We now have the resources to be a one-stop shop.”
In this case Buzz produced four different masters. It created a 4:3 pillar boxed 720p, 59.97 master for ESPN. In addition, it created from the same HD elements a 16x9 1080i, 29.97 master for NBC, CBS, ABC and a 16:9, 720p, 59.98 master for FOX and down converted to an SD master for networks requesting a backup, and for agency deliverables.
“The speed and ability of the eQ to manage the workflow in the HD world is incredibly efficient,” concluded Flack. “I don’t think any other system could manage this type of workflow and deliver the multiple variations of masters without missing a beat.”
