Dayang HD Products Prove Popular At Inter BEE 2006

Dayang has reported a thriving market for HD programme production, post-production and transmission equipment at Inter BEE 2006.
Held every November at the Makuhari Messe convention centre overlooking Tokyo Bay, Inter BEE remains by far the strongest event in the Japanese broadcast exhibition calendar.
"With HD-DVD and Blu-ray both on now sale, Japanese programme-makers are keener than ever to make the switch from SD into HD," commented Dayang Systems Engineer Poon Kahing. "The two disk formats are competing for market share in a repeat of the Betamax versus VHS contest. Demand for HD content is meanwhile expanding rapidly. Our D3-Edit nonlinear editor attracted a great deal of interest. It allows HD, SD and multiformat programme production with simultaneous title generation. The D3-CG-HD character generator was also a focus of attention. It is equipped to handle Japanese Hiragana and Katakana phonetic scripts as well as the Kanji pictograms used in China and Japan, plus the Roman alphabetic used in many western countries. A specific strength of the D3-CD-HD is its ability to perform real-time letter-by-letter motion-path manipulation."
The transition from tape-based to server-based storage continues in Japan as elsewhere. Dayang's VIPS (Video Ingest Playout Server) enables small-to-medium size broadcast stations to achieve a major increase in operational efficiency. A single 2U VIPS system can accommodate four 80 gigabyte drives with RAID5 data protection. The server includes a real-time soft codec, providing a high level of future-proofing and eliminating the need for external transcoding. File formats supported by VIPS include Motion-JPEG, MPEG2. MPEG4, DV, and WMV. An integral soft codec allows new file formats to be adopted quickly and easily.
Dayang also exhibited its D3-Air range of broadcast equipment control modules. The standard system includes an upload and auditing station (capable of controlling servers or VTRs via four EIA-422 ports), an autoplay master control workstation (with backup), router control station, system management station and database server cluster.
Ethernet and fibre switchers are also available. These are definition-independent so can be used to control HD, SD or multi-resolution systems.
