Milagro Post relies on Rorke Data’s 4Gb SATA II RAID for Thomson’s 2K Film Scanner SAN installation

Broadcast and Digital Video data storage specialist Rorke Data has announced that USA-based Milagro Post has greatly increased its DI workflow capability with the addition of the GalaxyHDX 4Gb SATA II RAID in combination with Thomson’s Spirit 2K Film Scanner SAN Solution.
The new installation relies on 4Gb Fibre Channel SAN connectivity to provide simultaneous access to as much as 32TB of content stored on the GalaxyHDX providing greater opportunities for project collaboration across the network. This concurrent access also gives Milagro Post’s artists and DI professionals almost instantaneous access to the content being scanned by the Thompson Spirit 2K film scanner to their existing Quantel Pablo on iQ 2k for grading, composting and playout.
“We chose Rorke Data for their name, reliability and speed,” said Michael Suggs, President of Milagro Post. “We couldn’t be more pleased with the performance of the Galaxy HDX solution. We are moving 2K scanned image files at real time across our network for conforming in our Quantel Pablo on iQ 2K DI grading suite. Rorke Data has exceeded our expectations.”
In addition to the Fibre Channel SAN solution, Rorke Data also installed a separate server to transparently manage the metadata from the Thompson scanner. As a result, anyone on the Milagro Post network can instantly access the scanned content. The writing of that content from the scanner is managed separately from Milagro Post’s editing workflow for reduced latency.
With the acquisition of the Rorke Data GalaxyHDX and Thomson Spirit 2K film scanner, Milagro Post has a DI workflow that can truly manage the scanning storing, editing, grading, compositing and playout requirements that its clients demand. (CD/CL)
