NTL WIN MOBILE TV CONTRACT IN SINGAPORE
NTL the UK-based digital network provider, together with Norway-based Nera Telecommunications, have won a contract to build a mobile digital television network in Singapore.
The contract costing $5 million involves designing and building a multiplexing and transmission system for Television Corporation of Singapore (TCS), a free-to-air broadcaster.
Peter Douglas, Group Managing Director for NTL Broadcast, said: “The successful introduction of mobile digital television is an important first step in helping Singapore lead the Asia-Pacific region in the digital revolution. We look forward to getting the mobile network in place and being involved in further digital developments.”
TCS will Launch TV Mobile on public buses in the first quarter of 2001.
Nera are to supply the receiver-decoders and display screens which will be installed on the vehicles. TCS plan to broadcast two programme streams from a number of sites, all operating as a single frequency network.
