Red Bee Media launches Digital Hive

Red Bee Media, formerly BBC Broadcast, has launched Digital Hive, a service for content owners, rights holders and distributors, which offers a one stop service to enable them to get their content onto new platforms and make it work on different screens - whether it be mobile, video on demand (VOD), broadband or other portable devices such as video ipods.
Digital Hive aims to take the hassle and cost out of the process for rights holders and distributors, including advising on how to get consumers to pay for content, negotiating with platform owners and storing the content for future use. Red Bee Media will charge a low fee for ingest or offer the opportunity for rights holders to participate in a revenue share scheme with Red Bee Media, thereby decreasing their risk while maximising the opportunities new platforms offer.
Content is digitised by Red Bee Media in the London-based Broadcast Centre, the most advanced playout facility in Europe, and kept on a central server. Red Bee Media’s knowledge of what consumers will watch and pay for coupled with its state-of-the-art technology and award winning creative teams enables the company to manipulate and re-format the content for any screen.
Pam Masters, CEO, Red Bee Media, said: “People are rapidly changing the way they consume content, bringing a multitude of ways for rights owners to make more money from their content and exploit new revenue models. Most of the debate so far has been about what technology consumers will use to access content on new platforms. Technology issues will sort themselves out – the key is to make content engaging for consumers. Only Red Bee Media’s knowledge of audiences coupled with its technology and creative talent can bring these aspects together. What’s the purpose of re-formatting content if no one’s going to watch it?”
