BBC CONSULT LICENCE PAYERS ON NEW ERA SERVICE

THE BBC are to consider public views on their proposals for new licence-fee funded radio and television services with the publication of a consultation document.
BBC Chairman Christopher Bland said: “This booklet sets out a new vision for our public services as we enter the digital era. To make the most of the opportunities offered by digital technology, we propose to replace two existing digital television channels, BBC Choice and BBC Knowledge, with a total of four new digital services, including two new children’s channels. These new services are designed to respond to the changes in the broadcasting environment, balance the BBC’s analogue and digital responsibilities and will ensure that an even wider range of top quality distinctive programmes will be available to television and radio audiences throughout the UK.”
The BBC proposed offering a total of eight television services to digital viewers, all available as part of the licence fee, at no extra charge.
Licence payers can obtain the document by calling 0800 011 011 or the questionnaire can be completed online at www.bbc.co.uk/consult.
Further information on BBC’s proposals can also be found at www.bbc.co.uk
