QUARTZ Electronics have been chosen by ONdigital to provide part of a backup transmission system.
The system, due to be installed in early November, will include a Quartz routing system encompassing two Q128 serial video routers. A 32x24 Q6400 serial video router is also on order along with four CP-6400 control panels and a CP-2000-32 intelligent control panel.
Harold Griffiths of London-based systems integrator Electronic Media Systems presented the order to Quartz on behalf of ONdigital at IBC 2000.
The backup transmission system will guard against any failure of the primary equipment and permit maintenance work without interrupting programme output. Quartz routers are being used by ONdigital for all SDI routing and monitoring within the new system. ONdigital chose the Q128 for its ability to be operated remotely, user-friendly control panels, and for the reliability of the existing Quartz 128 installed in ONdigital’s primary system in May.
Chris Anning, Head of Engineering Operations at ONdigital, said: “We were looking for a product that could be controlled and monitored remotely as the backup system is principally unmanned. Quartz offered us the ability to do this simply and efficiently by interconnectivity with other third-party supplied equipment. We are also exploring options of large display projectors and plasma screens that can control these matrices directly.”
Quartz’ 128 router is a 12RU high modular design with an exceptionally compact chassis, which leaves more room for rear access cabling. All modules are front accessible and hot-swappable for ease of maintenance. The 2RU CP-6400 control panel can be installed up to 500 metres from the Q128, communicating via Q-link. Its extra large keypad and user programmable eight-character name display provide a flexible and efficient method of source and destination identification.
