National Film and Television School students gain DI knowledge with Nucoda Film Master
Digital Vision, a leading developer of advanced digital media applications specialising in film and video solutions, has announced that students at the National Film and Television School (NFTS) are using a Nucoda Film Master as part of their training on a Digital Post Production course.
Based in Beaconsfield, the NFTS, which is set in an authentic studio environment, is the first educational establishment in the UK to train students in a fully equipped DI suite providing an all-round understanding of the whole Digital Post Production process for television programmes, commercials and feature films.
NFTS student James Osborne, an online editor for a number of years who began the 15-month course in January 2005, commented: “Personally, I think facilities are now looking towards software based grading systems. With a continual stream of new blood coming into the industry, young film makers feel completely at home with non-linear editing and digital effects production. Major facilities have already adopted DI for feature film production and are now looking at non-linear workflows for commercials and long form view. Previously, the thin end of the wedge was the feature film market but that trickles down into broadcast and commercials pretty quickly.”
He added: “Having colour corrected on various systems, you get a lot out of the Nucoda such as subtle nuances, because the solution has had major design input from some well respected colourists and it shows. Nucoda Film Master is also great for fiction work, as you can really push the creative boundaries and having a dedicated hardware interface like the Valhall Control Surface is infinitely quicker than using a pen and a tablet.”
