S4C2 AND EINSTEIN AGREE UK DISTRIBUTION DEAL

EINSTEIN Channel, the new pan-European digital television and broadband channel devoted to science and technology, have secured UK distribution on Europe’s largest digital satellite through S4C2.
The deal, which has prime-time carriage for the channel due to be launched simultaneously with the broadband television channel in January 2001, was achieved through negotiations with S4C2, the Welsh fourth channel management company.
Managing Director of S4C’s Commercial Group, Wyn Innes, said: “We are delighted to have agreed terms with Einstein TV to provide them with the technical channel management and infrastructure needed to broadcast their channel on satellite. This is a developing business for us and demonstrates our ability to provide services throughout the UK from our broadcast centre in Cardiff. We are currently in discussion with a number of other broadcasters keen to utilise our experience and expertise.”
By the end of 2001, the Einstein Channel expects to be transmitting in five languages across 16 territories. Distribution deals already in place include, Deutsche Telekom, NTL Cablecom and Cosmos TV.
