MACROVISION COPY PROTECT PARAMOUNT

PARAMOUNT Home Entertainment have signed a five year extension to their contract with Macrovision UK to copy-protect 100 per cent of their worldwide DVDs as well as selected videocassettes.
Carol Flaherty, Vice President Macrovision’s Video Copy Protection Group, said: “Paramount has always been a strong protector of its intellectual property. Macrovision is pleased to apply copy protection to Paramount content distributed throughout the world. Paramount is making a substantive commitment to copy protection in deciding to protect 100 per cent its DVDs.”
Macrovision’s copy protection is designed to prevent unauthorised copying of VHS and DVD programming to VCRs without impacting the original picture.
Macrovision introduced their DVD copy protection in 1997 and it is now utilised on over 75 per cent of all video DVDs distributed by most Motion Picture Association of America studios, as well as corporate, educational, and special interest rights owners.
Flaherty said: “Paramount are providing retailers with a valuable tool in helping to maximise rental and sell through investment without bearing the risk of revenue loss from unauthorised consumer copying.”
