Effect Technology launch Rezzer R1

Effect Technology has launched Rezzer R1, an up/down serial digital format converter between standard definition (SD) and high definition (HD) television video.
It is designed to meet the quality needs of the broadcast programme chain at a new low price-performance level.
Technical Director Joseph Ellis describes what lead to the 18-month development programme for Rezzer R1. "As we were often working at HD installations, it was quickly very clear that customers had real ongoing needs to change formats. This could be for the editing source material or for outputting different versions from a master. We decided to apply our digital video knowledge to provide a solution ourselves."
Packaged in a one-third-width 1RU box and available for under £1800, Rezzer R1 is unlike most small-format, low-price converters. In addition to the spatial conversion required to change image size, Rezzer R1 includes advanced processing for the more challenging task of de-interlacing, for interlaced (I) to progressive (P) scan conversions, as well for P to I. This means, for example, that high quality output is achieved for format conversion from 480I to 1080I 50 or 720P to 1080I 50.
The Rezzer R1 design is based on the practical requirements of HD operation. For convenience the input is looping and there are twin outputs: all are SDI. The input standard is sensed and accordingly the unit switches and locks to it. The only control is for setting the required output format that is shown on the front panel LCD display. Internal test signals, including colour bars, black reference, BLL pathological and EQ pathological, are a useful bonus for system set up.
