AKM’s single chip audio CODEC gives excellent noise filtering performance

Asahi Kasei Microsystems (AKM), a leading supplier of audio ICs for professional and consumer markets, has introduced the AK4633, an A/D and D/A converter with exceptional noise filtering characteristics, making it ideal for digital still cameras, voice recorders and other electronic gadgets with voice processing.
The single chip, low power 16-bit mono CODEC also has a built-in a digital ALC microphone amplifier. It supports DSP mode as well as the standard MSB-justified, LSB-justified and I2S audio formats and accept a PCM format interface such as a Bluetooth-module.
The ALC provides high-quality recording with low power consumption. It has a programmable digital filter for high-pass and 2-band notch filters that effectively cancel wind and other ambient noises.
The chip, which supersedes the AK4361, has a low noise microphone pre-amplifier and condenser microphone power circuitry for difference and single-end input, playback ALC, and digital volume controls. The mono speaker amplifier delivers up to 400 mW of power. With built-in PLL, the AK4633 generates the audio clock internally for simple interfacing with the system LSI. The AK4633 offers sampling rates from 7.35 kHz to 48 kHz and an operating voltage range from 2.2 to 3.6 V.
The AK4633 further features: power management control to each circuit block via uP interface, a low 1.6V digital power supply, which allows a direct interface with other chips, such as a CPU, for low power consumption, and it comes in a 4mm x 4mm package ideal for the latest super-small mounting boards.
The AK4633 is available in a 24-pin QFN package.
