UBC Thailand places second major order with Dayang

United Broadcasting Corporation, Thailand's largest broadcaster, has placed a US$4 million order with Dayang, in a major expansion of its Facility 2 production resource, Sports Production and Media Asset Management departments in Bangkok.
For Facility-2, the contract includes the installation and commissioning of 12 D3-Edit 5100P online editing stations. These will be used to edit promos and produce 3D effects. They will be linked to four new VIPS-4L-1225P ingest servers. Eight Dayang D3 transcoders are also being supplied for converting files from third-party equipment. UBC's Sports Production facility will deploy six Dayang VIPS-4L-1225P servers for ingest, six D3-Edit-1200 offline editors and five D3-Edit-2100P online editors. Voice dubbing will be performed on two D3-Dub-2000 stations. The expanded online editing resource will be used to create sports action programmes. Dayang's D3-Edit-1200 off-line editors will be used to assemble sports programmes for delayed telecast.
UBC's Media Asset Management department will be expanded from the existing Dayang-supplied Phase 1 system. This currently provides 450 hours of 26 megabit/s I-frame storage allocated to live feeds, 900 hours allocated sport and a further 450 hours to post-production. An additional 450 hours of 10 megabit/s long-GOP was allocated to transmission and 250 hours of standalone cache storage provided. Phase Two will see the addition of a D3-MAM-UP-IO for upload/capture, three D3-MAM-CAT for cataloguing, expanded D3-MAM-WEB internet-based video browsing and eight MAM-dedicated D3 transcoders.
Dayang CEO Karlton Burn commented: "UBC were impressed by the high level of support they received from Dayang during the supply and commissioning of Phase 1. We were able to customise and develop solutions specifically matched to UBC's workflow. Another key factor in the award of this latest contract was the ability of our MAM and archiving systems to interchange file formats seamlessly with third party equipment. Scaleability was also a very significant issue, both in terms of production resources and archive capacity. The expanded media asset management system will meet UBC's increasingly heavy archiving requirements with long movie content moving to and from an additional Sony Petasite robotic tape library. We have supplied a total of 16 data movers and a Fibrechannel- networked cache storage to handle archiving and content-migration between the Petasites and UBC's Entertainment 1, Entertainment-2, Facility-1, Facility 2 and Sports departments."
