Røde NT5 Cardioid Condenser Mics excel on Placido Domingo concerts

HHB has announced the sale of 22 pairs of Røde NT5 cardioid condenser microphones to acclaimed sound mixer Jerry Eade.
Currently the house engineer with Placido Domingo, Eade’s illustrious career in the live sound industry spans more than 30 years, 20 of which he spent with busy PA contractor Sound Hire.
“I was invited to try out the NT5s on a show featuring the up and coming opera performer, Anna Netrebko. Frankly, I was amazed at how good they sounded,” Eade explained. “On the next job, over a series of five separate performances, I decided to audition NT5s on all sections of the orchestra. They performed flawlessly, giving me plenty of the low end that I was after and an incredible off-axis response that I’ve previously only heard from microphones costing up to five times the price.”
“To be honest, I couldn’t believe what I was hearing, so I had an NT5 measured through Meyer Sound’s SIM system – the acid test. Comparing its input trace with the much more expensive mic I’d previously been using for the same job, the response was virtually identical.”
“After that I was sold on NT5s. I’m constantly enthusing about the NT5s to my colleagues! I’ve now used them on three shows with Domingo and I’ve been extremely happy with the results. And the NT5s are really compact, so I can take them as carry-on baggage when I’m working abroad. In truth I don’t think these mics cost enough – they’re far too good!”
