New Hebden Sound Microphone tested by professionals

Top UK recording producers were recently given the chance to assess Hebden Sound’s new HS3000 microphone when it was subjected to a series of listening tests at Thames University’s Vestry Hall Studios.
Members of the Music Producers’ Guild were invited to the University to meet the Hebden Sound team and try the microphone in a control room environment.
David Anderson, Managing Director of the Sheffield-based company, began the proceedings by introducing Hebden Sound and explaining how its hand-built microphones are designed and constructed.
The demonstration that followed involved miking the University’s magnificent Steinway with a pair of HS3000s in readiness for a recital by pianist Bias Boshell. The producers were able to listen to the audio in the studio control room and compare it with the sound achieved by miking the piano with a pair of Calrec microphones, which are the forerunners of the HS3000.
MPG Chairman Mike Howlett said: “I really enjoyed the evening; it taught me a great deal of things I never knew about microphones, which is always useful, and the new mics were really impressive.”
The recently launched HS3000 series of professional microphones are a detachable capsule system, permitting the user to choose between Omni, Cardioid, Hyper-cardioid and sub-Cardioid directivity patterns. All capsules give a wide frequency range and low noise figures.
