BAL SHIP NEW SYNCHRONISER

STUDIO interface manufacturers, BAL Broadcast, are shipping the first units of a new range of serial digital component frame synchronisers, designed to pass video with embedded audio.
The new DRX4751 synchroniser addresses the need to handle serial video signals with embedded audio. Handling embedded audio places additional constraints on the operation of a frame synchroniser. It must pass up to four embedded audio groups (eight AES/EBU stereo pairs), maintain the audio to video timing relationship and provide ‘glitch’-free audio when video frames are dropped or repeated in the normal course of synchroniser operation.
The DRX4751 provides simple concealment of audio clicks during frame dropping or repeating, ensuring that there are no perceptible artefacts with typical speech or music content. In addition it will recover ancillary data space lost to audio packets ‘marked for deletion’.
The DRX4751 provides a full frame of timing adjustment, easily accessed through front panel controls and display. EDH checking of the input signal, and re-calculation of CRC’s at the output is standard. Four synchronised outputs are provided, generally removing the need for serial DAs, and the synchronising reference is looped-through. The unit conform to the DRX modular interface system is available in 1, 2 and 4U rack formats. (CMcL)
