THE surplus contents of the Millennium Dome will go under the hammer at four-day public auction beginning on February 27 and ending on March 2.
Among the many items that will be auctioned off are state-of-the-art stage equipment, lighting, AV, sound and broadcast-grade equipment, that are expected to attract interest from the events and entertainment industries.
Other lots will range from forklift trucks to character costumes. Zone and theme items on sale include the heart, eye and brains from the Body Zone and a six-foot-tall hamster from the Work Zone.
Since the Dome closed its doors to the public the process of decommissioning its contents has begun and the majority of assets owned by third parties have already been removed and returned. Henry Butcher will sell any surplus assets owned by the New Millennium Experience Company (NMEC) whose removal would not prevent future business, commercial, sporting or visitor attraction use of the Dome.
NMEC Director John Darlington, said: “No removal or sale assets that would materially restrict future options for the use of the Dome will take place in advance of the auction. In the meantime, the removal and return of assets not owned by NMEC will continue on the current timetable. This is a contractual obligation.”
General brochures for the auction can be obtained by visiting Due to health and safety regulations associated with the decommissioning of the site, no persons under 16 will be admitted during the viewing, auction and clearance periods. (CD)
