Beyerdynamic introduces MCE 86 II Shotgun Microphone at NAB

Beyerdynamic, a leading manufacturer of microphones, headphones and wireless microphone systems, has introduced the new MCE 86 II Shotgun Microphone at NAB 2005.
An extremely light and rugged microphone, making it ideal for mounting onto cameras or camcorders, the MCE 86 II can be used for video recordings, lecterns or theatre applications.
“Due to its construction and integrated active filter, the MCE 86 II is exceptionally resistant to wind noise and vibrations caused by zoom motors,” says Alan Feckanin, Beyerdynamic’s Video and Production Unit Manager. “Each sound source is reproduced with absolute accuracy and clarity. This microphone is ideal for a range of applications, both outdoor and indoor.”
The electrostatic transducer element and the hypercardioid/lobe polar pattern in the MCE 86 II result in an excellent directional polar pattern with high sensitivity to the intended sound source.
There are two different elastic suspensions available, both suppress footfall sound and vibrations from zoom motors. The size and weight of the MCE 86 II allows it to be used easily in outdoor applications, as well as in studio environments with fish pole booms, or as a handheld unit.
With a frequency response from 50 to 18,000 Hz, the MCE 86 II can handle a sound pressure of 128dB. The MCE 86 II can be powered from a balanced phantom source or battery powered with an integrated 1.5 V battery. It also has an electronic balanced output, allowing for operation with long cables.
All battery-powered versions have an on/off switch and battery condition LED.
