Pinnacle Systems launch new licensing scheme for education

Pinnacle Systems, developer of digital video solutions, have announced the details of their Education Licensing Policy and Academic Purchase Scheme.
The scheme, entitled Pi, or the Pinnacle Institute, which will initially be run as a pilot project, will be available to educational institutions throughout the UK.
Pinnacle are launching Pi in response to the growing demand for their products from schools, colleges and universities. It will be applicable to the Studio software package which, as the platform for Pinnacle Systems’ consumer line of video editing solutions, delivers easy-to-use capture, editing and authoring capabilities to manage any movie-making project. In addition, the scheme encompasses Edition DV, Pinnacle’s end-to-end solution that merges professional editing and DVD authoring capabilities in a powerful production package. If successful, the Education Licensing Scheme will apply to all Pinnacle software products.
In order to take part in the Pi scheme, the academic institution purchases just one copy of the full retail version of the product, plus a quantity of licenses equivalent to the number of users within the institution and any that will also use the product externally.
Simon Isted, UK Sales Manager (Consumer Products) at Pinnacle Systems, said: “One of the major advantages to the Pi scheme is that it is more flexible about who uses the software. Most academic site licences allow the software to be installed only on the institution’s computers, but our scheme enables faculty staff and students to use it wherever it is most appropriate.”
The benefits of the new Pi scheme to schools, colleges and universities are that they will be given preferential pricing on brand new products and the purchase mechanism is simple and straightforward.
“Such is the demand for Pinnacle products in the education market,” Isted added, “that it was vital for us to devise an effective and straightforward licensing scheme that would work well in practice and allow immediate access to our products. We believe the Pi scheme will fulfil all of these requirements.”
