Low Budget Film Scheme 'Catalystproject' Shortlisted

The shortlist of filmmaking teams for the new low budget scheme catalystproject, launched earlier this year, has been selected.
From this short list of ten teams, three will win the opportunity to produce a low budget feature film. The successful films will ultimately be released theatrically in cinemas across Ireland and screened on TV3.
Launched earlier this year, the catalystproject invited filmmakers to complete a series of intense workshops on the art of low budget filmmaking, receiving top class mentoring skills directly from Irish and international award-winning filmmakers.
Mentors included legendary independent producer Christine Vachon (Boy’s Don’t Cry, Infamous, Far From Heaven) and renowned producer and consultant Bruce Block (As Good as it Gets, The Holiday, What Women Want).
All participants then had the opportunity to submit a feature film script, from which the short list of ten has now been chosen. Competition for the project was very strong with over 45 submissions received.
All shortlisted teams will be interviewed further in order to select the final three projects. The three successful teams will be awarded funding of €250,000 to produce their film. Projects will be selected on the basis of their freshness, talent, conviction, originality and ‘quality of vision’.
Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board, FÁS Screen Training Ireland, Filmbase, The Broadcasting Commission of Ireland, TV3 and the Arts Council have devised this original mentoring scheme, with the aim of developing and training new talent in the art of low-budget filmmaking.
