OPENTV’S MIDDLEWARE INSTALLED IN 16M STB’S

OPENTV, one of the world's leading interactive television and media solutions companies, have announced that their OpenTV middleware is now installed in a market-leading 16 million digital set-top boxes (STB) worldwide.
Deployment growth in the quarter included digital cable, digital satellite and digital terrestrial networks.
Deployments in the quarter ended March 31, 2001 totalled 2.1 million units, a 30 per cent increase from the more than 1.6 million STB shipped in the first quarter of 2000.
OpenTV CEO James Ackerman said: "Our core platform technology is enabling both narrowband and broadband interactive television in cable, satellite and terrestrial digital TV networks, and in thin and thick set-top box architectures. We are now the leaders in activated middleware deployments in the United States, and we continue to extend our deployments leadership outside of the U.S. We plan to continue proliferating our core platform, and build our iTV applications.” (CD)
