Nyaal Banyul Geelong Convention And Event Centre Integrates Riedel Broadcast And Intercom Infrastructure

Riedel Communications has announced the deployment of its MediorNet video infrastructure and Artist-based intercom ecosystem at Nyaal Banyul Geelong Convention and Event Centre in Victoria, Australia, providing integrated signal distribution and production communications across the venue.

The systems support 12G-SDI signal transport, integration with visiting outside broadcast (OB) facilities and wired and wireless communications for production teams working throughout the centre.

Opened on 20 June, Nyaal Banyul is located on Geelong’s waterfront and features the 1,000-seat Wala Mirr Theatre, approximately 3,700 square metres of flexible event space and a series of divisible breakout rooms.

Designed to accommodate a range of events, including conferences, gala dinners, concerts and exhibitions, the venue is also expected to host regional and national broadcast productions, making adaptable audiovisual and broadcast infrastructure a key requirement.

The venue's broadcast infrastructure is built around Riedel MediorNet, with fibre connectivity extending throughout the facility to transport 12G-SDI signals between production areas and the central network.

Cameras can be connected locally, with their signals carried over fibre to the central infrastructure. A MicroN UHD can also be deployed directly within an event space, providing a local connection point to the wider MediorNet network.

The system has been designed to accommodate visiting broadcasters and outside broadcast operations. A dedicated 24-core single-mode fibre connection links the venue to its satellite truck position, allowing signals from the MediorNet network to be made available at the OB patch.

Broadcasters already using MediorNet can connect their production infrastructure to the venue over fibre, simplifying signal exchange between the building and external production facilities.

That gives us a great deal of flexibility in how we support each production."

Production communications are supported by a Riedel intercom ecosystem built around Artist, combining Bolero wireless intercom, PunQtum partyline intercom and Riedel SmartPanels.

Sixteen Bolero antennas provide wireless coverage across indoor and outdoor areas, supported by 36 Bolero beltpacks available on site.

Within the Wala Mirr Theatre, Artist, PunQtum and SmartPanels work alongside the Bolero wireless infrastructure to support communications between technical teams, clients and production personnel.

The integrated system enables users to remain connected as they move between different areas of the venue, supporting coordination across events and production workflows.

By combining MediorNet video transport with an Artist-based communications environment, Nyaal Banyul has established an infrastructure designed to accommodate a variety of live events and broadcast requirements, including productions involving visiting outside broadcast teams.
