EITB Chooses AEQ Conexia Intercom
Euskal Irrati Telebista (EITB), the Basque Country's public media organisation, has chosen AEQ’s CONEXIA intercom platform for its Bilbao headquarters following a rigorous public tender that involved comprehensive documentation and testing.
The deployment comprises an AEQ XCORE matrix, 128 AEQ TP9116 user panels and AEQ XPLORER MAX wireless beltpacks, establishing a high-capacity intercom system engineered for the facility's demanding operational needs.
With more than 3,000 metres squared of floor space, EITB Media’s integrated newsroom is among the largest in Spain, bringing radio, television and digital teams together in a single environment.
At the core sits the AEQ XCORE intercom matrix, capable of interconnecting up to 1,000 devices. At EITB it has been implemented with full operational redundancy, including dual power supplies, a redundant N+a DSP platform and multiple controllers.
Operating natively over AoIP, the system incorporates layered hardware, software and network redundancy to ensure round-the-clock service with high availability and audio quality.
CONEXIA’s broadcast-focused architecture manages multiple audio formats in a modular way, adapting resources to each installation. An internal TDM bus allows the matrix to scale to 1,024 x 1,024 ports, while the platform delivers broadcast-quality audio at 48 kHz and 24 bits.
XCORE integrates DSP cards for audio processing and crosspoint control, with optional backup cards offering automatic failover. The system also supports input and output cards for SDI, fibre, AoIP, analogue and digital audio.
The 128 AEQ TP9116 panels included in the project provide “Talk” and “Listen” functions, individual volume control and 16 crosspoint keys arranged across four pages, with four RGB graphic displays.
The panels process audio at 24 bits and 48 kHz and feature IP connectivity for DANTE audio, compatible with AES67. They also include analogue, KROMA digital and VoIP ports, as well as an internal DSP for acoustic echo cancellation and automatic voice adjustment.
The TP9000 family is complemented by the TP9416 desktop panel and the EP9116 expansion panel, which enable systems with up to 64 physical levers.
Mobility is provided by AEQ XPLORER MAX wireless beltpacks, giving technical and production teams freedom of movement, high-quality audio and extended coverage via IP connectivity.
XPLORER MAX can operate over straight-line distances of up to 700 metres, with up to 20 beltpacks supported by a single antenna. Coverage can be extended by interconnecting up to four antennas on the same network.
The deployed solution combines the capacity and redundancy of AEQ CONEXIA with the flexibility of TP9116 panels and the mobility of XPLORER MAX, delivering an intercom infrastructure suited to a large-scale audiovisual facility.
The project was led by EITB's Engineering, Projects and Operations teams, working alongside AEQ's central services in Madrid.
