Mavis Camera 8.2 Adds iPhone 18 Pro Aperture Control
Mavis Camera 8.2 adds iPhone 18 Pro aperture control, ProRes RAW and HDMI output
Mavis has released Mavis Camera 8.2, the latest version of its professional camera app for iPhone and iPad, adding support for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max alongside ProRes RAW recording, professional HDMI output and a new API for custom production workflows.
On the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, the update provides direct control of the devices' new variable aperture through either the Camera Control Wheel or onscreen thumbrails. The aperture can be adjusted while recording and can be used with both manual and automatic exposure, giving filmmakers and production teams additional control over exposure and depth of field within the Mavis Camera interface.
The update also introduces ProRes RAW recording across supported iPhone models. Users can record ProRes RAW in 4K or Open Gate formats to an external SSD, providing greater flexibility for adjusting exposure, white balance and other image parameters during post-production.
Mavis Camera 8.2 adds a low-latency HDMI feed for external monitoring, with users able to choose between a clean video output and a professional information display.
The information display can show camera, recording and output data on a connected monitor, including exposure settings, focal length, recording status, timecode, capture format, audio levels and device status.
Monitoring tools and overlays, including tallies, guides, aspect-ratio masks, focus peaking, zebras and false colour, can also be displayed over HDMI.
The app can match the HDMI output refresh rate to the camera's capture frame rate, which Mavis says is intended to provide predictable output for professional monitoring and production workflows. In Mavis testing, HDMI latency measured two frames at 29.97 fps. Pro HDMI Output requires a compatible HDMI adapter.
Mavis Camera 8.2 also introduces a new API that allows external applications, devices and production systems to connect to the camera over a local network.
Using a WebSocket connection, developers can control functions including recording, exposure, focus, white balance, zoom, lens selection, tally and colour shading. The API can also provide live updates when camera settings or status change.
A browser-based API Playground is included, allowing users to explore the available controls without writing code.
The two-way communication is designed to enable developers, broadcasters and production technology companies to integrate Mavis Camera into custom remote controllers, hardware control surfaces, multi-camera systems, studio automation, bespoke applications and wider production infrastructure.
