TVD Group Marks 30 Years In Business

TVD Group is celebrating 30 years in business and a decade of its British TV brand Mitchell & Brown, marking two major milestones for the company as it continues its growth from a family-run television business into one of the UK's established independent AV technology groups.

Since its foundation in 1996, TVD Group has generated more than £342 million in cumulative turnover, sold more than 1.5 million products, completed over 200,000 installations and supported customers across more than 60,000 client sites.

The company said its growth has been underpinned by a simple philosophy that has remained unchanged since its launch: providing strong customer service.

That approach now extends across the group's operations, including TVC Technology Solutions' commercial AV specification, installation and support services, Mitchell & Brown's work with independent electrical retailers, and its UK-based customer service operation, which has handled more than 45,000 service calls.

Managing Director Lucia Maguire said the 30th anniversary was about more than the company's longevity.

"Thirty years in business has shown that what customers remember is whether you gave them good advice, whether you answered the phone and whether you were there when they needed help," said Lucia. "That philosophy started with the Brown family in 1996 and it runs through TVD Group today. Whether we're supporting an independent retailer selling a Mitchell & Brown television or delivering a major AV installation for a national hospitality customer, our job is fundamentally the same: understand what the customer needs, deliver it properly and support them afterwards."

TVD Group was established in 1996 by Jim Brown and his sons, Matthew and Daniel, as a family television business.

Over the following three decades, the company has evolved alongside major changes in the technology sector, from the decline of CRT televisions and the arrival of flat-panel displays to the transition from analogue to digital broadcasting and the growth of connected Smart TVs.

Commercial AV has also undergone significant changes, with UHD displays, digital signage, video walls, direct-view LED and integrated audio-visual environments becoming increasingly prominent.

TVD Group has expanded alongside these developments while retaining the service-led approach associated with its independent retail origins.

Today, its TVC Technology Solutions brand provides commercial AV integration services to the hospitality, leisure and entertainment sectors, designing, installing and supporting systems for customers across the UK.

Its projects have included installations for brands and venues such as Hollywood Bowl, F1 Arcade, Genting Casinos and Europe's largest indoor racket sports venue, Racketeer.

The company has also delivered national and multi-site projects for customers across hospitality, leisure, retail, betting and gaming, as well as other commercial sectors.

TVD Group is also marking the 10th anniversary of Mitchell & Brown, which was launched in 2016 and will celebrate its 10th birthday in November.

The British television brand has established a following among independent electrical retailers and their customers, with its distribution strategy designed specifically around supporting independent dealers.

Mitchell & Brown televisions are sold through independent electrical retailers and are supported by UK-based customer service, sales and technical teams, alongside the brand's seven-year warranty.

The strategy reflects TVD Group's own roots in independent television retail and its understanding of the role independent dealers can play in providing customers with knowledgeable advice, personal service and ongoing support.

Over its first decade, Mitchell & Brown has developed a range of televisions aimed at the UK market, including compact models for kitchens, bedrooms and motorhomes, alongside large-screen Smart TVs featuring the latest connected TV platforms.

Lucia added: "Independent retailers represent many of the things TVD Group believes in. They know their customers, they understand the products they sell and, crucially, they're there when somebody needs help. Ten years later, we're incredibly proud of what the brand and our retail partners have achieved together. More importantly, we remain every bit as committed to championing independent electrical retail for the next decade."

The group has also changed its ownership structure as it looks towards its next phase of growth.

In 2024, TVD Group transitioned to majority employee ownership, giving staff involved in customer relationships, installations, technical support and day-to-day operations a direct stake in the company's future.

Maguire said the structure would help maintain the company's culture as it moves into its next 30 years.
