AI And Robotics Drive Tactical Feed At Franz Beckenbauer Supercup 2026
Broadcast Solutions, a leading systems integrator for the broadcast and media sector, has delivered a step-change in live sports production at a flagship football fixture, combining Studio Automated's AI-driven camera automation with Egripment's broadcast-grade remote heads at the inaugural Franz Beckenbauer Supercup.
The company first showcased the joint capabilities of Studio Automated and Egripment at Sportsinnovation earlier in 2026. That integration has now been proven in a high-pressure environment, with coverage reaching a vast audience of football fans.
The Franz Beckenbauer Supercup 2026, contested by Borussia Dortmund and FC Bayern München at Signal Iduna Park on 22 August, traditionally serves as a platform for the Bundesliga and its host broadcaster Sportcast to trial or introduce cutting-edge broadcast technologies at the start of the season. This year, as part of the international feed, the host broadcaster deployed a fully automated camera system powered by Studio Automated's AI and an Egripment HotHead 3 remote head — a milestone that signals the shift of AI camera operation from innovation showcase to production-ready workflow.
In contrast to conventional automated solutions that primarily track the ball or players, Studio Automated develops AI that reads the game, interprets match context and applies established broadcast production principles to shot selection and framing. By analysing the full scene, it composes images in line with accepted editorial standards.
Running entirely on standard on-premises hardware, the Studio Automated platform requires neither cloud connectivity nor a calibration process, and it integrates cleanly with existing production set-ups. It supports multiple football camera positions out of the box — including tactical camera workflows — while maintaining ultra-low latency and open integration options.
For the Supercup production, the AI piloted an Egripment HotHead 3 fitted with a professional large-lens camera. The solution marries AI-led, natural-looking framing with the precision, smoothness and dependability of one of the industry's most respected robotic platforms.
"The deployment at the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup was an important milestone for automated sports production," said Jens Fischer, Senior Business Development Manager at Broadcast Solutions Group. "What started as a technology showcase at Sportsinnovation has now delivered an international tactical feed for one of Germany's most prestigious football events.
The collaboration sits within a wider technology partnership. Studio Automated now supports Egripment's entire remote head line-up — including the HotHead 3, 306, 301, 205 and MiniShot — via native integration with Egripment's DigiLite IP ecosystem. This enables broadcasters and production companies to roll out automated camera workflows across a broad spectrum of use cases, from compact remote productions to major international events.
Attendees at IBC2026 can put the systems through their paces themselves. Studio Automated and Egripment will be on the Broadcast Solutions stand (12.F20), demonstrating integrated workflows for premium sports productions.
