ToolsOnAir Integrates CORE I/O With Iconik

News Image
ToolsOnAir has announced a new integration between its software-defined video server CORE I/O and Iconik, the cloud-native media management and creative operations platform, enabling production teams to access, manage and collaborate on live-recorded content from the start of a recording.

The integration combines broadcast-grade multichannel recording with automated asset creation, metadata synchronisation, proxy workflows and real-time HLS preview capabilities within Iconik. It is designed for use across sports, news, live events, corporate production, education, podcasts and other distributed production environments.

The workflow allows teams to begin reviewing and preparing content without waiting for recordings to finish, undergo processing and be uploaded. Instead, high-resolution media can remain on premises or on cost-controlled storage, while lightweight proxies, metadata and live previews are made available through Iconik for remote collaboration.

"This is a total game changer for Iconik users because, in production, time is money," said Christian Schabasser, Senior Product Manager at ToolsOnAir. "Our new real-time HLS preview brings incoming recordings directly into Iconik while they are still being captured. Editors, producers, and remote teams can immediately see what is happening, start adding metadata, and prepare the next steps instead of waiting for the recording and upload to finish. We are turning the recording moment into a live collaboration moment."

The integration is configured directly through the CORE I/O web interface, where administrators can connect the system to Iconik using their existing credentials. CORE I/O automatically retrieves available Iconik domains, storage locations and metadata views, removing the need for manual file configuration.

Recording profiles can be created in advance, allowing operators to select the required workflow, enter a file name and begin recording. Depending on the chosen profile, CORE I/O can simultaneously generate:

A high-resolution broadcast master stored locally or at a scanned destination
A web proxy uploaded directly to Iconik for immediate review and collaboration
An optional editing proxy linked to the Iconik asset for post-production
A live HLS proxy viewable within Iconik while recording is underway

As recording begins, CORE I/O automatically creates the associated asset in Iconik. Metadata views are synchronised from Iconik into CORE I/O, enabling operators to add information without recreating forms or changing workflows.

Once recording is complete, the asset is updated automatically with the finished files, creating a workflow designed to remove manual file management and reduce delays for remote teams. Editors and producers can monitor feeds, add metadata, review content, log shots and begin editorial planning from the first frame.

"CORE I/O adds a professional broadcast recording engine to the Iconik environment customers already know and trust," said Peter Steiner, Chief Business Officer at ToolsOnAir. "Together, CORE I/O and Iconik make live production faster, more visible, and easier to manage, while giving customers the flexibility to keep high-resolution content where it makes the most operational and financial sense."
