HbbTV Association Unveils Application Showcase As Central Hub

News Image
The HbbTV Association has introduced the HbbTV Application Showcase, a single destination highlighting real‑world deployments of its open specification for interactive television delivered via broadcast and broadband.

Positioned as a go‑to resource for the HbbTV community, the showcase curates state‑of‑the‑art applications from broadcasters, platform operators, technology suppliers and other stakeholders worldwide, offering a clear view of how the standard is used today and the range of services it enables.

The collection spans interactive programme enhancements, interactive advertising, on‑demand catalogues, EPGs, access to FAST channels, gaming, accessibility services and addressable advertising, illustrating how HbbTV underpins a modern, flexible viewing experience across markets and device types.

A central benefit of HbbTV is its ability to support one application across connected TV ecosystems, eliminating the need to create and maintain separate apps for proprietary operating systems and enabling consistent, scalable roll‑outs across manufacturers and brands.

At launch, the gallery is seeded with a selection of recent HbbTV Awards entrants, providing an immediate cross‑section of use cases, markets and implementation approaches of value to developers, product teams and decision‑makers assessing what HbbTV can deliver.

Industry participants are encouraged to submit further applications via the form on the showcase page; all entries will be reviewed before publication to ensure consistency, accuracy and quality.

“The HbbTV Application Showcase is an important new resource for our community. It brings together top-level, real-world examples of HbbTV applications, demonstrating the richness and diversity of services enabled by the open standard,” said Vincent Grivet, Chair of the HbbTV Association. “These applications highlight how HbbTV enables seamless, engaging and interactive viewing experiences, bringing together a wide range of services within a consistent connected TV environment. We believe this showcase will inspire innovation, support knowledge sharing and underline the unique value of HbbTV as a universal platform.”
