Vizrt Unveils AI Keyer To Replace Green Screens And Enable Virtual Sets Anywhere

Vizrt has launched its AI Keyer, a tool the company said broadens access to virtual and extended reality (XR) productions by removing the need for green screens and enabling virtual scenes in any setting.

According to Vizrt, the AI Keyer can switch backgrounds and insert augmented reality (AR) graphics indoors or outdoors. The proprietary system has been trained on extensive real‑world footage across varied environments and lighting conditions to recognise people as the foreground and separate backgrounds cleanly, allowing on‑camera talent to move while remaining locked into a virtual scene.

Vizrt highlights use cases including inserting remote speakers into global town halls, changing a presenter’s visual location during news segments, and placing a virtual advertising wall behind athletes in post‑match interviews. By avoiding green screens, complex lighting, and manual chroma keying, the company says producers can find new ways to engage audiences and increase sponsorship value.
