swXtch.io To Showcase New Multicast Networking Solution At NAB Show
swXtch.io is set to return to NAB Show this April, where it will unveil its latest developments in software-defined multicast networking for broadcast and media production.
The company will present groundSwXtch, making its North American debut. The new solution extends its existing cloudSwXtch virtual network overlay, bringing software-defined multicast capabilities into on-premise physical environments.
Designed as a software packet switch, groundSwXtch can be deployed on customer-owned servers or virtual machine infrastructure. It enables organisations to connect multiple data centres into a single global multicast network without the complexity typically associated with traditional multicast systems.
The platform allows broadcasters to distribute data efficiently across locations while using existing network infrastructure, removing the need for hardware reconfiguration. This approach can also reduce costs by enabling the use of more affordable switches and routers during upgrades or new data centre builds.
swXtch.io said the system offers a fully controllable and scalable network environment, with centralised management and built-in reliability features. Integration with the company’s monitoring platform provides real-time visibility and operational oversight.
When combined with cloudSwXtch, the solution is designed to unify on-premise and cloud environments, supporting low-latency and high-throughput performance for live production workflows.
Since its debut at IBC 2025, groundSwXtch has gained traction across the broadcast sector, with early deployments already in place.
"Across radio broadcast studios, we've already seen a number of real-world deployments of groundSwXtch as a software-defined alternative to codec architectures," said Geeter Kyrazis, co-founder of swXtch.io. "We're seeing significant interest from customers who want to scale their data centre infrastructure without the traditional complexities and costs associated with building a multicast network. groundSwXtch provides an alternative multicast option without the need to design or construct new network environments.2
The company has also reported growing use of the technology in video applications, including large-scale surveillance systems.
"Many of the data centres we support with groundSwXtch manage large surveillance systems, often supporting tens of thousands of camera feeds via multicast," continued Kyrazis. "Rather than building huge multicast networks, customers can leverage groundSwXtch to simplify distribution and optimise efficiency."
swXtch.io added that the technology is helping broaden access to advanced networking capabilities across the industry, particularly for smaller organisations.
