VITEC Deploys Ultra-Low Latency IPTV At Meydan Racecourse

News Image
Meydan Racecourse, one of the world's most prestigious horse racing venues and home to the Dubai World Cup, has undergone a major media technology upgrade with the deployment of a new IPTV and digital signage platform from VITEC.

The large-scale installation is designed to enhance the guest experience across the venue's 80,000-seat grandstand, luxury suites, restaurants and on-site hotel, while also improving content delivery and sponsor engagement.

Meydan, a flagship destination in the region's sports and hospitality sector, required a modernised system capable of delivering high-quality, low-latency video across its extensive infrastructure. The venue's previous media setup had become outdated, lacking the flexibility and performance needed for live, high-profile events. Managing content across hundreds of screens was also inefficient, while even minor delays in live race footage risked disrupting the experience for spectators and bettors.

To address these challenges, VITEC deployed its IPTV and digital signage platform, built around its MGW Diamond encoders. The system delivers sub-second latency using advanced HEVC (H.265) and H.264 compression, enabling real-time, broadcast-quality video feeds from cameras positioned around the track.

More than 600 4K digital signage players were installed throughout the venue, supporting seamless ultra-high-definition playback alongside dynamic content overlays. The system allows for zone-based content distribution, enabling tailored viewing experiences across different areas, from VIP suites to public concourses.

The platform also integrates a centralised content management system, providing operators with a single web-based dashboard to schedule and control messaging. This includes sponsor advertising, event information, safety alerts and emergency communications. Multicast streaming and VLAN segmentation have been implemented to optimise bandwidth use and ensure reliable performance without disrupting other operations.

Since the rollout, Meydan Racecourse has reported notable improvements in operational efficiency and audience engagement. Guests benefit from synchronised, real-time race coverage across the venue, while sponsors gain increased visibility through targeted and interactive content. The centralised system has also streamlined workflows for staff and improved system reliability, supported by real-time monitoring and diagnostics.
