Tightrope Media Systems To Unveil AI-Powered Audio Description Service
Tightrope Media Systems is set to introduce a new AI-driven audio description service at the NAB Show 2026, as part of an expansion of its MediaScribe accessibility platform.
The new feature will be demonstrated at Booth W1642 during the event, which runs from April 19 to 22 in Las Vegas. It is designed to provide automated audio descriptions for public meeting videos, extending MediaScribe’s capabilities beyond captions and transcripts.
The development comes as accessibility requirements evolve under regulations such as ADA Title II and WCAG 2.1 AA, which now mandate audio descriptions for pre-recorded video content. These descriptions help ensure that key visual elements—such as speakers, gestures and on-screen graphics—are accessible to people who are blind or have low vision.
Tightrope said its AI-powered workflow is designed to generate these descriptions efficiently, reducing the burden on government teams that may lack the resources for manual production.
The cloud-based system can identify speakers, highlight visual cues and describe slides or graphics that are not verbally explained, while integrating into existing video workflows or operating alongside the company’s Cablecast Automation platform.
"Visual information in meetings is crucial for accessibility. But when government teams are already stretched thin, manually creating audio descriptions can't realistically be piled on top of their workload," explained JJ Parker, co-founder and CEO of Tightrope Media Systems. "MediaScribe solves that. It automates audio descriptions, so your team can expand accessibility without sacrificing other mission-critical work."
The MediaScribe platform also supports live captions, translations and transcripts, offering a comprehensive solution for government organisations seeking to meet accessibility standards for both live and on-demand video content.
