Sony Future Filmmaker Awards 2026 Announces Judging Panel

News Image
The Sony Future Filmmaker Awards (SFFA) has revealed the judging panel for its 2026 edition, which will take place at Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City from 8–11 June 2026.

Entering its fourth year, the Awards continue to spotlight emerging talent and provide creative momentum to help filmmakers advance their careers. Established by Creo in partnership with Sony, the annual program celebrates bold new voices reshaping cinema and offers shortlisted creators the opportunity to connect with the international filmmaking community.

Shortlisted filmmakers are flown to Los Angeles to attend an exclusive industry program featuring masterclasses, screenings, workshops, and behind-the-scenes access. The program is designed to equip emerging storytellers with the skills and connections needed to progress on a global stage. The competition is free to enter and submissions are open until 16 December 2025.

The 2026 judging panel includes Golden Globe-nominated director and producer Will Gluck (Anyone But You, Peter Rabbit, Easy A), acclaimed producer Rachel O’Connor, President of Film and Television at Pascal Pictures (Challengers, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Little Women), animation co-director Adam Rosette (The Wild Robot, Orion and the Dark, upcoming GOAT), and award-winning director Justin Chadwick (Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, The Other Boleyn Girl, upcoming Sierra Madre), who returns as jury chair for the fourth consecutive year.

Shortlisted filmmakers will be announced on 30 April 2026 and invited to Los Angeles for the four-day program. Led by Sony Pictures executives, the sessions cover production, talent deals, film acquisition, publicity, animation, soundtracking, and emerging technology demonstrations. The program culminates in a gala ceremony on 11 June 2026, where winners will receive cash prizes and Sony Digital Imaging equipment.

Filmmakers can submit short films across five categories: Fiction, Non-Fiction, Animation, Student, and Future Format. The Future Format category challenges entrants to create shorts specifically for vertical viewing (9:16 aspect ratio). The Sustainability Prize, returning this year, recognises a short film that creatively addresses themes of environment, accessibility, diversity, equality, and inclusion.

The 2026 Sony Future Filmmaker Awards aim to continue nurturing the next generation of filmmakers, offering an international platform for discovery and creative development.
