Calrec To Unveil New Argo Software Updates At IBC 2025

News Image
Calrec is introducing a series of usability, customisation and system enhancements across the entire range of Argo consoles at IBC 2025, on Stand 8.C47. Look out for an exciting announcement on the first day of the show.

Showcasing a suite of interconnected products and updates designed to help broadcasters adapt to increasingly dynamic broadcast environments, Calrec will demonstrate a live ecosystem made up of multiple Argo consoles, the modular Type R mixing system, the powerful ImPulse processing core and the company’s ImPulseV virtualised cloud audio mixing engine.

With Calrec's latest iteration of its flexible award-winning True Control 2.0 providing bi-directional control and connectivity throughout the stand, Calrec’s IBC presentation focuses on the creative ways broadcasters can introduce flexible workflow combinations to their infrastructures, to not only develop more content, but also reduce costs.

Argo M: Compact without compromise - do more for less
Delivering the same feature set, operational familiarity and rock-solid reliability of Calrec's established Argo platform, Argo M comes in a compact 24 and 36-fader footprint. Designed to maximise desk space, the Argo M features full-sized fader strips with wild controls built to handle the most demanding of productions where physical space is limited without compromising on features. Argo M is a high-performance plug-and-play control surface straight out of the box with a full range of ST2110 and cloud connectivity, allowing broadcasters to focus on what matters most - creating great content at scale!

With up to 356 channels of internal DSP, Argo M features built-in analogue and digital audio I/O and GPIO, 3 x modular I/O expansion slots, and a MADI I/O port via SFP. The ability to connect to an ST2110 networked environment and to an existing Calrec ImPulse core alongside other Argo surfaces means it can quickly create multi-console IP environments, while connectivity to ImPulse, ImPulse1 and ImPulseV means additional external DSP paths can be easily added as production demands change.
With seamless ST2110 integration, touchscreens that can switch between metering and intuitive UI control, and support for immersive formats up to 7.1.4, Argo M addresses the industry's need for super-compact and portable IP mixing solutions designed to meet the full spectrum of live broadcast production demands.

Argo S: Multi-award-winning broadcast IP audio mixing platform
Sporting a new software update being previewed exclusively at IBC, Calrec also demonstrates its award-winning 48-fader Argo S console at the show. Paired with an ImPulse DSP core and built for demanding broadcast environments, Argo S is a modular, IP-native audio console available in two height variants. With enough customisable hands-on real estate to deliver control over every parameter of the audio mix, Argo S is designed to adapt to broadcaster needs without compromising control or resilience.

Calrec's new v1.4 Argo software introduces a number of upgrades, including an enhanced routing strip functionality that allows users to see every fader’s routing simultaneously on the touchscreen. The update also enables users to switch rows of physical controls to other strip modes such as EQ, Dyn or Pan, and enables Argo Q to support two sets of custom wild panels per section. A new Tiles feature allows users to customise their up-stand meter layouts to add thumbnails, and Argo now supports a streamlined new workflow for Mix Minus that allows users to select any bus to send to a channel's mix minus output rather than just the auto-minus. It also adds the ability to select a different output when fader closed to when it’s open and allows users to 'interrogate' the console to access routing information of buses being used for a path’s main output.

The update also supports DAW control of MIDI on the Argo platform and makes improvements to NMOS Control, status updates and monitoring, and interfacing with Calrec Connect.

Award-winning True Control 2.0: Work on any show, from anywhere, on any equipment and with any DSP processing core
True Control 2.0 is supercharging broadcast workflows, accelerating the adoption of fully remote and distributed production. With the ability to control any Calrec system from any location, it provides access to more cores, more faders, more surfaces, and more control to adapt to any production requirement. At IBC 2025, Calrec brings all this together on Stand 8.C47 demonstrating the power and versatility of True Control 2.0 across its product range.

True Control 2.0 gives broadcasters far greater levels of remote control without the limitations of mirroring or parallel controlling, delivering full feature-set control parameters that include EQ, dynamics, routing, direct outputs and delay. It allows broadcasters to quickly scale their production ecosystems to meet changing production requirements, facilitating any combination of distributed production workflows and a deep level of remote control. A single controller can access to up to five other consoles or processing cores at the same time, giving broadcasters more flexibility than ever before and expanding broadcasters' functionality without having to invest in additional hardware.
True Control 2.0 is available on Calrec's Argo Q, Argo S, Argo M and Type R audio consoles, the ImPulseV cloud-based audio mixing solution, and ImPulse and ImPulse1 cores. Calrec has also introduced Apollo+ and Artemis+ into the True Control ecosystem. True Control 2.0 allows any of these products to remotely control any other True Control 2.0 enabled product.

ImPulseV: DSP processing in the cloud
Calrec's ImPulseV is a virtualised DSP core in a cloud native AWS environment. Accessible from anywhere in the world, it uses the same familiar Calrec user interface and can be controlled through Calrec's Assist web UI, directly from any Calrec Argo or any other True Control 2.0 enabled console.
Minimising broadcasters’ reliance on physical hardware, ImPulseV delivers premium audio quality and Calrec's full broadcast feature set directly in the cloud. ImPulseV is optimised for low latency throughput, providing real-time responsive, efficient and deterministic audio processing, control, routing and mixing. ImPulseV not only empowers broadcasters to flex resources to meet the demands of large broadcast events, its economical OpEx model enables a wider range of second and third tier events, which may not previously have been financially viable.

Type R: The building blocks for your TV or radio station
Calrec will showcase its Type R modular, expandable IP mixing system, controlled by True Control 2.0. It too is designed to encourage customers to take advantage of distributed production and flexible workflows. Type R’s fully 5.1 capable IP core enables broadcasters to benefit from virtual working practices and automated broadcast workflows on a cost-effective SMPTE 2110-compliant IP backbone.
Type R now provides the following key features, which will debut at IBC 2025: off air record, enhanced GPIO talkback, monitor selector follow, mix minus bus user labels and a large DSP pack with 32 aux buses.
