Pepper complete postproduction on ‘The Honeymooners’

Leading broadcast, film and commercials facilities house Pepper have completed the postproduction on the feature film ‘The Honeymooners’ from Verve Pictures.
Pepper was chosen for the project to carry out the grading and online editing. Produced in just eighteen days on a micro budget, the director’s approach was to throw away the traditional rules of the genre and employ ‘dogme’ techniques with his script.
Avoiding the artifice of make-up, and using only natural light, the film was shot entirely hand-held. From the outset it was the director’s preference to shoot on digital video, which produced the earthy texture seen on the film, and got to the core of the characters and their story.
Dan Coles, Pepper’s colourist who worked with producer Martin Brinckler on the project said: “The DV was largely shot in a flat style which we prefer as it gives us the opportunity to push the material in the grade. The end results were bright, colourful and rich in style; but without loss of detail - something which can be a disadvantage with shooting on video. For a film shot almost entirely on naturally-lit video it has a very filmic look.
Written and Directed by Karl Golden and starring Alex Reid and Jonathan Byrne, The Honeymooners tells the story of a jilted groom and a waitress who make an unlikely alliance and find themselves in the depths of rural Ireland. Together they begin a hilarious and chaotic adventure that will change both their lives. The film emerges as an energetic antidote, a raw and surprisingly intimate take on a universally appealing love story.
Brinkler said: “As always, Pepper did a great job with the combination of technical proficiency and creative talent and the artistic contribution from Dan Coles during the grade gave us the final aesthetic we were looking for. The director Karl Golden and I are keen to collaborate with Pepper in the future.”
Verve Pictures released the film on April 30 throughout the UK.
