Peter Sellers biopic heads BBC Films' Cannes push
Stephen Hopkins' ‘Life And Death Of Peter Sellers’, an HBO Films/BBC Films co-production produced by Company Pictures, heads up the BBC Films push at this year's Cannes Film Festival, having been selected for the Official Competition.
An intimate look at the personal triumphs and defeats of one of Britain's most prolific and gifted comedic actors, the film directed by Stephen Hopkins has a stellar cast including Geoffrey Rush, Charlize Theron, Emily Watson and Stephen Fry.
Beyond Cannes, BBC Films has an impressive and varied list of titles currently in postproduction, including award-winner Dominic Savage's new film ‘Northern Souls’; Saul Dibb's powerful debut feature ‘Bullet Boy’, starring Ashley Walters (aka Asher D); Pawel Pawlikowski's volatile tale of summer romance in Yorkshire, ‘My Summer Of Love’.
Richard Eyre's much anticipated ‘Stage Beauty’, starring Billy Crudup and Claire Danes, is set to close the upcoming Tribeca Film Festival and for an early September UK bow through Momentum; written by Frank Cottrell Boyce, Danny Boyle's ‘Millions’ is the quirky comic tale of two young boys who stumble upon the haul from a bank robbery and is set for release in the UK this Autumn through Pathé Pictures; Marc Evans' Sundance chiller ‘Trauma’, starring Colin Firth and Mena Suvari, which Warner Bros will open in the UK on August 27.
Michael Winterbottom's futuristic love story ‘Code 46’, which had its World Premiere at last year's Venice Film Festival, and stars Oscar winner Tim Robbins and Oscar nominee Samantha Morton will open across the UK on September 17.
Roger Michell's ‘The Mother’, which had a very positive reception at Cannes last year in the Directors' Fortnight, opens in late May across the US through Sony Pictures Classics.
"With The Life And Death Of Peter Sellers, Stephen Hopkins has made an exceptional film about one of this country's greatest comic talents, and Cannes provides the perfect platform for its international launch," commented David Thompson, Head of BBC Films. "We are proud to be involved."
