APT showcase new systems at NAB 2004

Audio data compression specialist APT, best known for its groundbreaking Standard and Enhanced apt-X algorithm, is focusing attention on multi-channel, multi-interface codecs from its expanding WorldNet series at this year’s NAB Exhibition in Las Vegas.
These are designed to give end users in the Broadcast and Post Production industries a variety of ISDN and TCP/IP solutions for transferring high quality digital audio in real-time.
Among the new products on show is the WorldNet Oslo, a modular multi-channel, multi-interface codec that comes as a 3U, 19” rack mounted unit and delivers up to 24 channels of audio. The WorldNet Oslo supports E1, T1, X.21, ISDN and TCP/IP data interfaces. Key to its success is reliability and redundancy, two features that are vital for the target market of Broadcasters and Service Providers. Taking advantage of IP protocols, the WorldNet Oslo can deliver packetised audio via an Ethernet port or connect LAN`s/WAN`s over timeslots on a synchronous network. The core compression algorithm is Enhanced apt-X, which will deliver audio quality and bandwidth for FM, DAB and HD services. The coding delay (or latency) through the algorithm is under three milliseconds, ensuring a product perfectly designed for STL`s (Studio-to-transmitter Links) and STS`s (Studio-to-Studio).
Also on show is the WorldNet Ohio, a 1 U, V.35 / X.21 audio codec with a single integrated ISDN Terminal Adapter for backup. The WorldNet Ohio has been designed specifically to address ‘Mission Critical’ STL`s and STS`s. If the primary V.35 / X.21 link should fail, the ISDN will automatically backup and re-route the program feed. When the primary link is re-established, the WorldNet Ohio will drop the ISDN connection.
A Silence Detect feature with variable levels and duration is available in software in addition to a Panic Dial and Audio Alarm relay to further ensure that the WorldNet Ohio can re-establish audio under extreme conditions.
