HTV WIN WELSH PROGRAMMES WORTH OVER £7.5 MILLION

HTV have announced that they have won 25 new commissions for Welsh language programmes from S4C worth over £7.5 million.
The commissions build on HTV’s particular strengths in current affairs, factual programmes and drama.
They include further commissions of Dai Jones’ long-running countryside series ‘Cefn Gwlad’ along with another series ‘Cefn Gwlad Mynyddoedd’ looking at a year in the life of Welsh hill farms and communities.
Also among the new commissions is a further series of the current affairs flagship ‘Y Byd ar Bedwar’ and HTV’s current affairs magazines for S4C Digidol ‘Hacio’ and ‘Du a Gwyn’. ‘Y Byd ar Bedwar’ passed its 1,000th programme at the end of last year.
HTV’s highly popular holiday programme for S4C, ‘Pacio’ is re-commissioned and Arfon Haines Davies will present a new series on Wales’ narrow gauge railways, ‘Cledrau Cul’.
Celebrated broadcaster and writer, Gwyn Erfyl, looks back on his life and career in ‘Byd Gwyn’, a series which includes film footage from his many award-winning television programmes of the 60s, 70s and 80s.
‘Cofio’r Comin’ is a documentary on the Welsh women of Greenham Common and the roles many of them have played in Welsh public life since their protest of 20 years ago.
‘Haearn a Dur’ is a three part series on the rise and fall of Wales’ iron and steel industry. And ‘Hoelen yn yr Archif’ is a look back to the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s through Welsh popular music and film footage of major events.
One of the highlights of HTV’s new drama commissions is a second series of ‘Pen Tennyn’, a story of family tensions which won Best Drama Series at this year’s Celtic Film and Television Festival.
Elis Owen, Controller HTV Wales and Director of Programmes, said: "We are extremely pleased both with the number and variety of these new commissions. It shows once again how highly other broadcasters regard the quality of our work. The new commissions follow the recent programming successes of HTV on the ITV Network, Channel 4, Channel 5 and Discovery Channel." (CD)
