ITV Commissions New Series Of 'Endeavour'

ITV has commissioned a sixth series for its detective drama 'Endeavour'.

The recommission comes after great ratings and critical acclaim for series 5.

Endeavour is an Inspector Morse prequel that charts the career of Endeavour Morse as he rises to prominence. It is produced by Mammoth Screen.

Shaun Evans and Roger Allam are to reprise their roles as the titular character and his mentor. The script is to be written by experienced Endeavour writer Russell Lewis.

The drama series, that started off as a one-off film, has risen to prominence since its 2012 debut. The latest series launched with consolidated figures of 6.7 million and 25% a share, with the consolidated figures for the first four episodes the highest for three years.

The new series, filmed in and around Oxford, will be set in 1969 and goes into production later this year for a 2019 broadcast. Mammoth Screen's Damien Timmer executive produces, alongside writer and creator Russell Lewis and WGBH's Rebecca Eaton. Deanne Cunningham ('Cold Feet') will produce the new series.
