DVB World 2004 returns to Dublin in March

In March 2004 DVB World is to again be held in Dublin.
Alongside the keynote address by Ulrich Reimers, Chair of DVB's Technical Module, one of the main draws is a special presentation by TV Globo's Director of Engineering, Fernando Bittencourt. The development of digital television is at an important stage in Brazil and many delegates will be keen to hear what Mr Bittencourt has to say as he hosts a special session on Day three of the conference.
That same day sees a session dedicated to the re-emergence of HDTV on the agenda in Europe. Gabriel Fehervari will present a demonstration HDTV programming from Euro1080, direct from the Astra 1H satellite. With representatives of Microsoft, SVT, Harmonic Inc. and the European Commission also taking part in this session, a lively discussion is assured.
One of the most exciting developments for DVB is the move into the handheld arena. As the DVB-H standards are finalised, all eyes are on the key players to see what kind of opportunities this convergence might bring. On Day 2 of DVB World 2004, the first session of the day will look at this area in detail with an update from the Chairman of the DVB-H project, Jukka Henriksson, followed by presentations from Nokia, the INSTINCT Project, the TDF Group and Berlin's BMCO Project.
The first day of the conference, for which the opening remarks will be delivered by Director General of RTÉ, Cathal Goan, sees a comprehensive round-up of progress in the DVB Project. DVB Chairman Theo Peek will get the ball rolling with a Sate of the Project address, followed by updates from the chairs of each of the DVB modules. Peter MacAvock, Executive Director of DVB, will chair the first session and will act as moderator when the discussion is thrown open to the floor for the first time.
Once again the conference will finish up with the big debate chaired by the EBU's David Wood. This year he'll be asking the question 'Can we make money from new services?', a subject close to everyone's heart.
Information and registration is available from the website of the International Academy of Broadcasting at www.iab.ch.
