Media Production Show To Put Huge Emphasis On Audio

News Image
The Media Production Show (MPS) is to put a huge emphasis on audio this year with a host of new exhibitioners and practitioners.

The MPS 2018 will feature an array of expert audio practitioners and a curated group of exhibitors demonstrating the latest sound innovations via specialised demo pods.

In partnership with Resolution Magazine and supported by the industry association AMPS (Association of Motion Picture Sound), a new Audio Zone and Theatre will also be present at the show.

Visitors to the theatre can attend free seminars to learn more about the latest audio formats and protocols, as well as delving into ongoing challenges in search of solutions. Adam Daniel, Re-Recording Mixer, Point 1 Post and Richard Addis, Head of Audio Operations, Halo Post will lead a discussion on Immersive Audio (12 June, 11.30am), examining the whys and hows of using emerging immersive formats in content creation.

The Audio Over I-please! session (12 June, 12.30pm) will look at the benefits of AoIP and the considerations in choosing specific protocols. This session is led by Jigsaw24's Senior Systems Engineer Matt Ward and Chief Engineer Phil Crawley. Film and TV sound recordists David Lascelles and Paul Paragon will provide an invaluable session on Location Sound For Directors (12 June, 2.30pm), revealing ideal practice for capturing the best audio results in production to avoid problems in post.

Gavin Allingham, Head Of Audio, Fifty Fifty Post Production and Greg Gettens, Head of Broadcast Factual Sound, Molinare, will discuss the ongoing Loudness War (13 June, 11am), and Emma Butt, freelance dubbing mixer, ADR recordist, will look at ADR as part of the storytelling process in ADR Is Not A Dirty Secret! (13 June, 12pm).

Resolution Magazine's editor and publisher Dave Robinson will also host a 'Pre-Pub-Post-Pop Quiz' for some light relief on Tuesday and Wednesday at 4pm in the Audio Theatre.

Exhibitors in the Audio Zone include HHB (Stand AZ3) and Jigsaw24 (Stand AP1), showing a wide variety of equipment from leading audio manufacturers, plus RøDE & Genelec (Stand AZ3) with its industry leading microphones, and Tailorsound (Stand AP2), the first online sound for video platform.

Other exhibition highlights around the show include first time exhibitor Syncbox VR (Production Services Village, PS1), an audio production company specialising in VR and 360 sound; DiGiBox (Stand 314) which will have audio solutions from Gefen, Theatrixx Technologies and Wohler among others (314); and Threefour Media (Stand 326), a media company offering sound design, mixing, foley and other audio and video creative services. In addition, finance company Medialease (Stand 622) will be running a 0% finance promo offer on Sennheiser's Digital 6000 range, available to business users.

"Audio professionals are very well catered for at the Media Production Show, with a strong seminar programme and hands-on access to some of the latest audio technology, from 360 sound to Audio over IP," said Charlotte Wheeler, Event Director.

The Media Production Show will take place in the Olympia, London from 12-13 June.
