AUDIO MICS USED FOR HARRY POTTER SEQUEL

THE eagerly awaited movie, ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’ has only just been released both sides of the Atlantic, yet the sequel is already starting production.
Like the Philosopher’s Stone, the sequel will be directed by Chris Columbus of ‘Home Alone’ fame and will also be largely shot at the same site - an old Rolls Royce factory just north of the M25. Because this site is so large, standing sets can be set up and left, which is very convenient given the enormous amount of detail that goes into them.
As the Harry Potters are filmed with a complex, multi camera set-up, multi micing has been essential, using Audio radio mics. John Midgley, ‘The Philosopher’s Stone’ production sound mixer has used Audio microphone systems for over 25 years so considered them well tried and trusted.
During more complex scenes of ‘The Philosopher’s Stone’, many different conversations take place simultaneously. These scenes had to be filmed by two or more moving cameras and the audio recorded on boom and radio mics. Midgley then mixed all the audio down to a finished two track time-code locked DAT master tape. (CD)
