IFB-Funded Films Added To Galway Film Fleadh

News Image
The Galway Film Fleadh has confirmed that two further Irish Film Board/Bord Scannán na hÉireann (IFB) funded titles have been added to this year's programme.

They are Nick Kelly's The Drummer and the Keeper and Tom Collins' Aithrí/Penance.

As Kelly's feature directorial debut, The Drummer and the Keeper follows Gabriel, a chaotic young rock drummer who is desperate to hide his recent bipolar diagnosis from his increasingly exasperated band mates. When he is forced to bond with Christopher, an institutionalised 17-year-old with Asperger's Syndrome, their union results in a very unlikely friendship. The Drummer and the Keeper is produced by Kate McColgan for Calico Pictures and stars Dermot Murphy and Jacob McCarthy. The film will receive its world premiere at the festival.

The Galway Film Fleadh also marks the world premiere for Tom Collins' Aithrí/Penance; a film set around The Easter Rising. Fire-brand Father Eoin O'Donnell is convinced that only violence will force Britain out of Ireland and influences the young and impressionable Antaine to fight. 50 years later, experienced gunman Antaine arrives in Derry and begins to influence Father Eoin's altar server, Feidhlim. Produced by Collins and Edwina Forkin at Zanzibar Films, Aithrí/Penance stars Peter Coonan in the role of Fr. Eoin.

The 2017 Galway Film Fleadh takes place from 11 – 16 July. The full event programme is due to be announced shortly.
