axle Video Releases Editing Solution

News Image
axle Video, along with network appliance vendor QNAP, have introduced a new solution aimed towards the increasing needs of government and non-profit video production.

The new system – the axle aQ-36T – offers multiple network connections via dual Gigabit Ethernet, dual 10 Gigabit Ethernet and a pair of Thunderbolt-2 ports which offer ultrafast, affordable interfaces to two Mac editing stations.

The aQ-36T has 36 terabytes of usable capacity holding around 1,500 hours of HD footage, and is configured with RAID6 to allow data protection in case of multiple drive failures. There is also a simple browser-based media management system. The system is priced at $10,995 and is available immediately from axle and its reseller channel partners.

The solution integrates with non-linear editing (NLE) systems from Apple (FCP7, FCPX) and Adobe (Premiere Pro CC, Prelude CC). Optional modules allow for integration with Avid Media Composer workflows, Adobe Anywhere distributed editing solutions, and a range of LTO tape based archiving solutions from vendors such as Archiware, XenData and IBM.

It also comes with unlimited user access to the storage, and a 5-user license for the axle media management software, including a year of software updates. Additional 5-user licenses for media management are priced at $1,995 each including a year of updates. Another option is axle Edit, a new rough cut editing application for the iPad allowing remote editing workflows with server-based rendering.

Sam Bogoch, CEO, axle Video, said: "QNAP's new hybrid NAS/SAN technology has allowed us to build powerful editing workflows into the aQ-36T. We know government and nonprofit customers are looking for cost-effective storage options for their video editing work; now, they can accomplish this with a very affordable complete system."
